Supporting SF Creative Writing Institute this Year - Giving Tuesday

Dear Writers,

Our lives are made up of stories. And stories shape how we see the world. At SF Creative Writing Institute, we teach writers of all ages and walks of life how to tell stories. Stories are made up of words, but they urge us to envision a scenario beyond words.

Being able to find, rediscover and use your voice and tell your story is so important. SF Creative Writing Institute is here to help you keep going!

Next year, SF Creative Writing Institute turns ten! We have our own projects in 2025 of fostering creativity, and bringing new voices to the fore. Going to where the silence is and finding ways to make it sing is what we live for.

Here are some of the cool things we did this year:

• We increased our Youth Programming - We offered Creative Storytelling Workshops at New Traditions elementary school for 2nd-5th graders. We continued to partner with the summer camp at Harvey Milk Center for the Arts students ages 8-12, and Young People’s Teen Musical Theater for teens. Our first annual Teen Creative Writing Summer Camp in mid-August was a smashing success.
• We updated our website to a new platform and to better tell the story of our work.
• We produced three Write from the Gut! readings featuring 40 emerging artists – at CounterPulse Theater, and one at Chapter 510 in Oakland. One at et. Al Gallery in the Mission.
• We participated in BeastCrawl and Litquake literary festivals in Oakland and San Francisco.
• We hosted 25+ Creative Writing Workshops for writers ages 8-80!
• We applied for 7 grants, got 1 and were finalists for many!
• We worked with writers from all over San Francisco, the Bay Area, the nation and world.

We are still a grass-roots organization that is mostly funded by classes, a small amount of grants and donations over the years.
