Dear Bay Area Writers, Just as we wind up our summer workshops - our fall ones begin. This weekend is the unofficial start to our fall season at the SF Creative Writing Institute at Harvey Milk Center. Sept 14 - Intro to Fiction 2-4:30pm (This Saturday!) If you've ever been curious what it's like to work with a professional editor who acquires genre fiction or a novelist who has written and published 10 novels and 100+ short stories been in your shoes, consider taking this workshop with Nick Mamatas. If you've always wanted to write fiction, but haven't had the time. If you get lost in your storytelling and want to know when to begin and where to end a story, and if you just want to enjoy some camaraderie in person after toiling on your creative work alone, join us on Saturday Afternoons. What’s the difference between ending a story and just stopping it? Regardless of genre, length, or form, every story has a beginning, middle, and an ending—in no particular order. Beginning writers often start their stories in the wrong place, confuse action with plot, and then end a scene a bit too early… or too late. In six weeks, award-winning novelist, anthologist, and editor Nick Mamatas will guide you up and down the path of storytelling—through the architecture of fiction. Nick acquires novels and short fiction, and knows what agents and editors are looking for in today’s marketplace.
